mycrystalline says:

He’s goin to Japan soon to stud. I hope he gets the royal treatment over there in his new career.

luminatedgame says:

matz is a great throw-back trainer…trains off a farmlike setting, very euro like. In fact i see alot of similarities to micheal dickinson. Matz really knows how to get a horse ready, chad brown is a great trainer too. Brown has done wonders with awsome feather.

nin12dog says:

It’s really unfortunate that IHA couldn’t race – but I’m glad he remains sound! Lucky guy, IHA – early retirement to Stud! I’d take ‘early retire’ TOO – in a hearbeat – if I got that kind of deal.I feel bad for M Matz – Barbaro had to have been a nightmare & to struggle w/U Rags’ bruised psyche – tough jobs!

luminatedgame says:

I think in the next 2-3mo’s. these two will mature immensely.
Not knocking either paynter nor rags but the belmont #’s were horrible…i’ll have another woulda rolled em’, in my opinion anyway…96 beyer winner is actually right up rags’ alley i have allways thought he was just a 95-100 beyer horse.

luminatedgame says:

to be honest with you 1 1/2 miles will unlikely be run by theses horses agian in their life but the belmont is. Anyway with i’ll have another ret. i think baffert has a great 1-2 punch, imagaine wene these horses learn to rate, and they ‘will’ learn. The likely reason for both having speed styles is because they are extremely immature, like 2 yo’s going 4.5-5.0 furlongs they go as far as they can as fast as they can! Baffert fig’d. not to change their styles but rather for now get em thru it.

artist40hou says:

Yes~! Paynter is a star in the making. And Baffert is the real deal, living legend. He said himself that Paynter was better than Bode, just needed to be raced, it was smart to replace him with Bode during the classics after placing second in the derby and preakness. Paynter and Bode are two of my favs this year and his gelding Game On Dude, didn’t do well in Dubai, but this horse is no joke.

nin12dog says:

WOW! interesting comment – I was struck by the similarities between Bode’s & Paynter’s ‘wire to wire’ races. Is it Baffert? Same training approach? It’s tough to go ‘full-out’ 1.5 miles. I’ve read Paynter may be better than Bode (no offense to Bode; I love Bode!). Paynter did a heck of a performance for a relatively untested racehorse.

nin12dog says:

this is good news! I agree, Sec was THE MAN!

nin12dog says:

So true! Bold Ruler, Storm Cat: a great Daddy is always helpful! Everybody ha! I hope you get to see IHA, I’m sure many who love him will visit him! I hope you get to see him!

artist40hou says:

Just saw the race, saw Mario mount “Cheetos” for the last time. My longshot Attigun was closing in on Union Rags and Paynter, It was good to see Union Rags win and get a good trip, very talented horse just needed a chance. Dullahan finished worst than I thought, big sandy proved to be too much for the turf king. I still believe Cheetos would have won the crown with Union Rags place, and Paynter show, we’ll see what happens next year.

artist40hou says:

Me too, and cant wait to witness his progeny, I believe in the horse, he’ll be just as successfull as he was on the track, I plan on trying to visit him when he gets settled if possible. Greats begat greats, Bold Ruler was a great horse after all there would be no Secretariat without Bold Ruler.

nin12dog says:

I’m very sad that IHA wasn’t able to race today – I know you were excited. I was too. Sad. But I’m glad IHA will remain Sound & well-cared for! If he’s a successfull sire, IHA will join the ranks of Bold Ruler!

nin12dog says:

do you think ONeil had given ”supplements’ to IHA for KDerby & Preakness, and was worried that it might be discovered? & this would then cause even worse problems for ONeil, (who is looking at a 45 day probation from training?). I hope not. I hope this is a situation where decent persons opted to avoid any possibility of a ‘Barbaro’ (racing tragedy), and thought first/foremost of the horse’s health/welfare?

nin12dog says:

do you think this is why IHA has resigned – very sad!

nin12dog says:

SO SAD for this great smart hard-working horse! So Sad for IHA!!!! But I am glad he won’t become a ‘Barbaro’!!!! Does anyone know if foul play is involved? very weird.

molly stack says:

I’ll have another is no longer in the belmont sadly, he has a swollen tendon in his front left leg. he will not be racing for another 3 to 6 months. =(

artist40hou says:

I know people don’t like it. They want Union Rags, especially now as a spoiler, some really believe and love the horse others just waiting to cash in, but IHA I feel in my gut is the next horse to enter that elite group of champions. My pick IHA first, Union Rags place, Dullahan show.

artist40hou says:

I gotta check that out. No, family interest, my love for horses started with Mr. Ed, and Lone Ranger’s horse Silver, then racing sparked my interest after seeing the Seabiscuit movie, and into westerns, by that time Affirmed and Alydar were the buz, and I schooled myself on the game, never wagered, just love the scene. But interest fell off, until this year, just payed attention to some of the good horses, but this year feels different cant’ explain, I just feel it my gut.

nin12dog says:

LOVE Dr. Fager! (also, the I/View w/Mr. Nerud abt Dr F on utube is really wonderful!) That’s interesting – you knew about Dr. Fager when you were very young – is your family in horseracing biz? RE: IHA & Slew – you make a good point – Slew raced after 3, he was a GREAT, tough-minded/determined horse, & a very successful sire! (some trash Sec because he wasn’t very successful as a sire). Slew had a great human family; they were with him at the end. That says alot.

artist40hou says:

I get what you ‘re saying about “the thrill”, if this horse is what I think he is, you won’t see records broken this year but you will see winning streaks. If they let him race he’ll dominate like Slew did in his 4yr, maybe records then. hes growing. “Wow!” Dr. Fager the Great, I used to take my cowboy/indian action figures and pretend my horse was “Dr. Fager” and run down the indians, lol Dr. Fager was the truth just no crown.Still no Secretariat, though.Though the Greats broke and set records.

ViceWorld says:

agreed

nin12dog says:

I also pray for no harm between now & next Sat; I think all will go well! I believe IHA will win – if/when he does, he’ll be in huge DEMAND! you’re right – people want to see the Greats race – it’s what they do! Another ‘Great’ that I love is Dr. Fager – check him out! Dr. Fager raced in the 60s & this horse STILL holds the record for 1 mile. Mr. Nerud was his trainer & part-owner. Dr. Fager is a very impressive racehorse (some say he’s similar to Secretariat!) & Mr. Nerud is very charming!

nin12dog says:

Hi Mr. Artist – LOL, we who were around in the 70s sure remember Sec! RE: “A black man that loves horse racing”; It’s funny – a young african amer guy who I work with said his grandmom had picked IHA for the Derby! She selected him & she was right! Of course he’s maybe 28-30 & doesn’t care about Trip Crwn, but his Grandmom does! so I asked him to get me some advice from her re: picks for 2nd & 3rd!

artist40hou says:

I’m excited, can’t help[ it! A black man that loves horse racing. Secretariat got me acting like this! lol, because of him we can believe even after 39 or 34yrs, I’ll shutup now, just excited, have no one to talk horses with all my friends only understand basketball and football, they look at me cross eyed when I mention thoroughbred horse racing.

artist40hou says:

You’re so right about Big Red! I think all the 40, 50 and 60 somethings wouldn’t even be talking about this horse if it weren’t for Secretariat the Great. We;ll never see another, and I’m glad I was able to live in that moment. I mentioned Barbaro the Great because not wishing anything bad but anything can happen between now and Saturday from seeing one of the greatest new horses of the new generation win and reach his greatest potential if he wins I pray that they let him race and not stud him.

nin12dog says:

I wish IHA the BEST of Luck! And ALL the horses in the upcoming race SOUNDNESS & HEALTH! Victory is great, but NEVER when a horse is destroyed. I don’t know IHA so well yet – but you’re a GREAT fan – that’s wonderful. I wish IHA luck & health! I agree – his Trip Crwn is similar to Affirmed’s. IHA & his Jockey are both SMART – they have many admirers! I’m looking forward to the Belmont. You are CORRECT – IHA has earned his victory! I agree with you – I hope he wins! He’s got HEART!

nin12dog says:

I love ALL these horses, artist; I wish IHA the greatest of luck in Belmont!!! (I’m a Sec fan; he was just SO compelling – as a child, I saw him race on TV). Of course I remember BEAUTIFUL Barbaro!!! I thought brave Barbaro WAS the reincarnation of Secretariat – it’s astonishing what Barbaro did! battled through 20 other horses @ KDerby, then demolished the field as he headed for home! Barbaro was ALL HEART, beautiful, intelligent, THRILLING. I hate what happened to Barbaro – he was ALL HEART!

artist40hou says:

Not bold just the truth, and this little horse has’nt reached his personal best yet. Thrilling for me, I love the underdog. No, comparison, yet~ but you can’t deny the qualities I’ve before mentioned, I compare Have another more with Affirmed than Sec or Zen, those are super horses, though because of his pedigree Have Another may have a larger heart than normal like Big Red, and long sloping pasterns that help him greatly lengthen his stride like Big Red. You’re right, “yet” Remember Barbaro?

nin12dog says:

interesting! Bold comparison there, artist! If IHA does what you suggest, he’ll be in an extremely elite group. But there’s only one Secretariat. IHA has inspired many, he seems like a really great horse! I really hope he wins the trip crown! At Preakness, Sec got in front FAST – going wide, he FLEW from last to LEAD @ the 1st turn, led by apprx 2 lengths down the stretch (hand ride). So far, I haven’t seen the same ‘star power’ w/IHA. Intelligent, strategic racer! – but not thrilling. Yet?
