I created this video to share some of my absolute favourite moments in horse racing over the past 25 years. The music I’ve used also happens to be some of my favourite stuff. The best race is saved until last, a defining and spine tingling moment in Irish sporting history. The screen setting is small enough, so adjust to suit yourself, but play it good and loud to achieve the best effect!

This is Secretariat’s historic 1973 Belmont Stakes victory. I uploaded the original video which is over 1 million hits 5 years ago. I can now rip at a much higher quality and I wanted to put the upgrade on Youtube for everyone to enjoy. 🙂 Unfortunately the footage is from 1973 so it will never be the HD we now have come to enjoy, but this should look good on 27″ screens or higher compared to the old one. What makes this video different from all other Belmont 1973 footage on youtube? Well, the elongated coverage of the race. It [More]

Date: August 19, 2004 Track: Del Mar I’m happy to report no one was hurt. There are two parts to this video. First is a clip of the “head-on” camera shot, which clearly shows three maintenance workers diving as they realize the field is about to trample them. Notice the bucket that they leave on the course. The second part is the full race. At the 2:29 mark, you can see where the maintenance workers scramble, but it’s not nearly as clear as the head-on shot. Not the rambunctious Dr Greenfield, whose reluctance to load in the starting gate delayed the race. Not a soft pace set by the lone speed horse, Balto Star. And not a hustling move on the far turn by AP Valentine, the New York horse from a New York trainer, or a late one by the Kentucky Derby winner, Monarchos, who is conditioned by a Kentucky trainer. As Louisville prepares for the 138th Kentucky Derby, horse racing in the US is under the spotlight over one its most controversial aspects. While there is big money for winners, every year thousands of under-performing thoroughbreds end up at the slaughterhouse. A total of 23 race horses either died or were injured on tracks across the US on the day of the competition last year. Now, a rescue centre is giving some lucky steeds a second chance. Al Jazeera’s Kimberly Halkett reports from Kentucky.
I chose “Brazilian Wedding” at the Trainer’s Challenge. Every horse has a certain quality that just stands out for a first impression. For Brazilian it was her overall proportioned sleek look. When looking at her for a more detailed assessment, I liked her comfortable eye, big ears, and the fact she was on all four feet whenever standing. Though skinny after her let down after racing, she has the bone to bulk up some muscle for power. She also has a very feminine look without being dainty. After all, pretty is what pretty does. The grey Kala Dancer won me a decent amount. Any horse with a Kala start or part of name I always backed mainly due to HUGE fav of mine and my account pic Kalaglow and also the fact he was a grey I backed him at 33/1 25/1 E/W but I will never forget running out from work at afternoon tea break and couldn’t resist having just another £1-00 win at 20/1 just before the off and listening Yes listening intently in the local William Hills (pre TV footage) and screaming him home. Black Caviar took her most positive step so far towards a return to racing with a surprise first public appearance for the year at Sandown on Tuesday morning. The unbeaten mare contested a jump-out, her first piece of serious racetrack competition since her famous Royal Ascot victory in June. Sitting deep from the start of the 800m contest, Black Caviar domimated the jump-out from the home turn as she put a space between herself and her rivals. “It was just a soft half-mile jump-out and I’m very happy with her,” trainer Peter Moody told AAP. “Like a pig in mud.
